{http://www2.citycenter.com/environment/materials/} :

: crystals displays loads of memorable eye candy inside and out, from the high-end fashion shops themselves to the various sculpture and architectural  artwork installations throughout.
{ this post is part 1 of 4 at crystals }

glass, color, light: ethereal beauty of chihuly

: chihuly gallery at citycenter | las vegas, nevada | usa | january 2010 :

: just sharing some images for anyone who hasn't had a chance to experience these amazing pieces first-hand...

: one of the two veer towers, my favorite building of the project, {helmut jahn designed residential highrises} beyond

: the chihuly gallery is suitably sited on a glazed corner, allowing visual interaction with the outdoor space where aria resort meets vdara spa towers and veer towers... all the while the citycenter elevated tram zooms by smoothly overhead.

glass_color_light_ethereal_bea.zip (213 KB)

: blue glass reeds with citycenter place and tram outside

: fountain lights outside constantly change while the waters dance

0glass_color_light_ethereal_bea.zip (510 KB)

: note the minimal guardrail surrounding this enormous green blown glass artwork. so many people, both adult and children, kept wanting and trying to touch the glass points... and i kept holding my breath while wanting to smack those people! when we first stepped into the gallery, a man was talking to one of the gallery workers with his american express in clear view, "how much is that piece over there? my son took an accidental swing at it..." errh i wonder what his credit limit was?!

the ZOO at kindergarten city

: our zoo project is just one public unit/plot/module for the sparkling new 'kindergarten city.' each public space is being designed and constructed by one of the 5-to-6 yr old kindergarteners [and their willing parents/volunteers] of st. mary's elm grove

: students will also build their own 'milk carton homes' for the site, with their '5th grade buddies' from the school.
: requirement : use only found and recycled household objects. employ proper signage. consider various building/landscape items such as parking, sidewalks, trees, windows, etc. learn the difference between wants vs needs of a community.

: while learning about the different people and spaces that create a 'community', what do you think their motivation was to complete the city?

...easy peasy! bring in a character {lego size or mini-polly pocket-type} and a vehicle, then they get to play in{inhabit} the city when it has been completed!

: a few wikistix for creative coley signage and a lion cage, shipping boxes from holiday gifts, aluminum mini-pie containers 'carved' as polar ice, select critters including a schleich zebra and dinosaur trees from my boy's precious collection, scenes of african savannah, polar ice caps, ecuadorian jungle, and mountains from colorado {all scenes rigorously researched and rubber-cement-fun-adhered to notecards ever diligently by marc. thank you sir!} ... and voilà!
: to complete the zany zoo, levenger notecards worked wonders slotted as fences which cole adopted his own unique method of cutting, and finally lego clones visited via elite pre-opening day private invitation.

: note that this zoo is safe from 'bad guys,' well guarded by lego clone captain rex and commander fox, "cos y'know, just in case of enemy attack." no weapons allowed inside though.

: more pix to come once the rest of the city is built...
